On Wednesday, June 6, 2012, James A. Harvey was presented the U. S. Small Business Administration’s 2012 Jeffrey H. Butland Family-Owned Small Business of the Year Award.  The Family-Owned Small Business of the Year Award is presented annually to a family-owned and operated business exhibiting longevity and profitability with the involvement of multiple generations within the business.  E. L. Harvey & Sons, Inc. celebrated 100 years of service in 2011 and currently employs three generations of family members.

Robert H. Nelson, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Massachusetts District, wrote in announcing this award, “This is a well-deserved and distinct honor that reflects the hard work and perseverance you have shown in continuing a tradition for over 100 years!  Your dedication to the success of the business, welfare of your employees, commitment to customers and the community at large is exemplary.  For this we congratulate you!”

Mr. Harvey was also presented with special citations from Congressman James P. McGovern and United States Senator John F. Kerry.

As a full service waste hauling, transfer and recycling company employing over 290 people, E. L. Harvey & Sons, Inc. enjoys an excellent reputation within the industry.  Our commitment to our employees, the community and the environment has earned the company many local and national industry and community based awards. The 2012 Jeffrey H. Butland Family-Owned Small Business of the Year Award is especially meaningful to our company, said Mr. Harvey, because it comes from a government agency.   We continue to strive to be good corporate citizens and the employer of choice within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
